Where in the World is AKA? “Birthday Shenanigans”

As all things do, our little adventure has a beginning as well. It all began with my husband bouncing home from work one day like Tigger from Winnie The Pooh.

I could hear the excitement in his voice as he began presenting his master plan which was as follows:

1. Renting an R.V for 8 days
2. Deciding exactly where we want to go during these 8 days
3. Packing up the R.V with our food, clothing and essentials
4. Setting out on the open road with the wind in our hair. Living life on the open road.

My response was ” Absolutely Yes! ” With a gigantic smile on my face. We chose to go on a adventure for both of our birthdays which are just one day apart.

We were in our bliss of dreaming of the open road and nieve to the fact that neither one of us had been the one responsible for all things involved in living the R.V life before.

Take mental note of this because it explains some of our little mistakes later in our journey. 🙂

We rented the R.V on Sat. brought it to the house on Tuesday afternoon and began to load it up. We made up our bed’s and packed up the refrigerator. We stocked up on toiletries and towels for our journey.

We put our clothes in two different bags and put them convieniantly in the storage compartments underneath. We brought some snacks for the journey and our own coffee and maker.

We even did the responsible thing and watched the video on the basic things to know about the R.V. It was in Italian so my husband understood much more than I did but we felt confident.

So it’s a “thing” herein Italy to not begin anything new on Tuesday. Call it superstitious if you want to but it’s considered bad luck. So our plan was to leave after midnight on Wed after we rested a few hours.

We did exactly that, we slept for a few hours , woke up had our coffee. Brushed our teeth and grabbed the last minute items. We both sat Elvis down and explained to him that we were going away for eight days.

We thought about bringing him with us but he is 90 and he has his life here. He loves to have his territory to go around and check on every day and he loves to sleep in his favorite areas where he knows the sun will be hitting him just perfectly.

With this in mind we told him to be good and not to worry we will be back in a week. We gave him some love and jumped in the R.V ready and hungry to experience new things.

Experiencing something new together with someone you love or by yourself is a great way to ignite our souls, stimulate our creative minds and speak to our deepest most inner selves.

With my husband in the drivers seat and myself in the passenger seat we felt unstoppable and on top of the world as we drove out of the driveway of our home and set off on our first R.V adventure.

It was still dark when we left so we began to listen to our songs from our play lists and danced in our seats as we sang along to the music. Basically it was a full on concert in our R.V.

The playlist was a mixture of genres from Rema- Calm Down to Guns and Roses to Bob Marley and Queen. It was a wonderful feeling of freedom, closeness, and this great anticipation.

Once the sun came out we were finally able to begin to see all of God’s great art! No one does it better. We stopped to stretch our legs, get a coffee and use the restroom.

Can I just say how convieniant it is to have a restroom in the R.V! Some of you will understand me when I say that I did not have to squat and hover to use the restroom almost the entire trip! I was feeling blessed.

Once we were back in the R.V we were back in action and on the road again like the Willy Nelson song. I have to say my husbands skills were impressive as he was whipping the R.V around.

The sun continued to bless us on our way and we filled our time with good conversation, some good music, some sandwiches and the beautiful scenery around us.

As day began to turn to night and the sun left us to shine on others we grew restless, hungry and tired. My husband had been driving for over 10 hours already so we decided to stop in Nijmegen in the Netherlands.

After we finally found a parking spot for the R.V. we set out on a mission to eat and to check out the sweet city for a little bit.

We did not know it then but Nijmegen is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. It is more than 2,000 years old. Very impressive and we both wished we had the time to stick around for a few days.

After we finished eating and walking around this adorable city we returned to our home away from home the R.V. and got some much needed sleep.

We will wake up early and begin our 5 hour drive to our next destination in our Birthday Shenanigans.Where will we end up next? You’ll have to tune in on my next post to see.
